Welcome to the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
This New Faculty Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) provides quick links to answer common questions about being a faculty member in the College of Human Medicine that may arise as soon as you know you are joining the MSU community. Your department chair or other unit-level administrator is also a key resource that is committed to your success. They can provide additional information on many of the topics addressed in the FAQs, especially in helping you understand and meet the expectations of your specific position.
In the fall of each year, the dean encourages all new faculty to attend the in-person New Faculty Welcome. It is an opportunity for new faculty in the College of Human Medicine to network with each other, meet the dean and other key leaders in the college, and learn more about who we are and all the things we do as a college. This year's event will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026 on the East Lansing campus. New faculty receive invitations directly from the College of Human Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Development
The university also provides a New Faculty and Academic Staff Orientation program. The program includes early web-based resources, a virtual “course” on being an academic at MSU that is available once your appointment begins, and an in-person event in East Lansing in August of each year. New faculty receive invitations directly from the MSU Office of Faculty and Academic Staff Development.
