  • Toya Pruitt, Human Resources Director

    In Toya's role at the college, she leads and directs a team of six human resources professionals at the campuses of East Lansing and the Secchia Center in Grand Rapids. She works directly with faculty, academic and support staff, chairs, directors, and administrators on a broad range of human resources matters including employee relations, compensation and reclassification, performance management, recruitment and human resources policies and procedures. In addition, she serves as a liaison to various university offices across campus and throughout the state and is the key MAU leader for all human resources matters for the college. Toya earned a bachelor’s degree from Baker College in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management. She earned a master’s degree in Human Resources Administration from Central Michigan University. She also obtained the Certified Human Resources Specialist (CHRS) from Michigan State University. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family, volunteering, and golfing.

    Colena has been with the College of Human Medicine since 2016. Colena provides human resources support for all college paid faculty and staff located in Grand Rapids. Her responsibilities include posting positions, serving on search committees and on-boarding all new employees; processing reappointments, reclassifications among other changes in appointments; cost distributions and various payroll functions; facilitating departures from the college; etc. Colena graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s in Human Resources with a Business Specialization.

    Gessika Johnson is the Human Resource Business Partner at Michigan State University's College of Medicine, providing support for all college paid faculty and staff located in East Lansing. With over a decade of HR expertise, Gessika is a seasoned professional dedicated to fostering organizational success through strategic human resource initiatives with proven proficiencies in employee relations, talent management, and organizational development. Gessika obtained her Bachelors of Science degree from Michigan State University and Master's in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. She is committed to cultivating a positive workplace culture that enhances both employee engagement and business performance. In her free time, Gessika enjoys traveling, volunteering within the community, and spending time with her family.

    Loni is a human resources coordinator at the College of Human Medicine’s East Lansing Campus. Loni’s primary responsibilities are adjunct/clinical appointment processes including non-prefix appointments for the college, temporary and student employee hiring, serves as an I-9 verifier, processes payroll, graduate assistantships and fellowship appointments, distributes keys and afterhours access for the Dean’s Office units. She oversees the university Mass Update process for the college. When Loni is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family.

    Rene is a human resources coordinator working alongside the Dean’s team in the College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids. Rene has been employed by MSU for 22 years working various HR positions/locations. Rene’s primary responsibilities are processing hiring and Human Resource processes of employment for On-Call/Temporary staff, MSU students and On-Call Faculty, which includes administering the PageUp posting process and other various HR related job duties for various Academic Affairs units. She is inspired daily by her husband of 35 years, son, daughter and three grandchildren.

    Angela is a Unit Human Resources Coordinator working alongside the Dean’s team in the College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids. Angela’s primary responsibilities are processing hiring and Human Resource processes of employment for On-Call/Temporary staff, MSU students and On-Call Faculty, which includes administering the PageUp posting process and other various HR related job duties. Angela has over 8 years of experience in Human Resources and is SHRM certified. In her free time, she enjoys reading and being outdoors with her family.

    Grace is a HR assistant for the College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids. She started her journey with Michigan State University in October 2018. Grace primary responsibilities are coordinating the faculty appointment process for non-MSU-employed faculty. She collects faculty appointment applications, completes faculty appointments transactions, change of statues, and terminations. Along with the East Lansing human resources team, Grace is responsible for the coordination of the university’s annual mass update process for the Grand Rapids, Traverse City and Upper Peninsula communities.

    Lily is the Unit HR Services Assistant for the College of Human Medicine at the East Lansing campus. Lily’s main responsibilities include handling clinical/adjunct appointments, processing payroll, temporary and student hiring, graduate assistantships and fellowships, as well as distributing keys and handling email communications. Lily is also assisting in the Mass Update process for CHM. While not working, Lily enjoys going for walks and spending time with family.
