    Mission: The Asian Pacific American Medical Students Association (APAMSA) at Michigan State University (MSU) College of Human Medicine (CHM) hopes to promote education and engagement in the unique health challenges of Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities, as well as the sociopolitical issues affecting APIA communities and Asian populations abroad. We aspire to accomplish our vision through organizing networking events with physicians and community leaders, interactive documentary screenings, connecting students with active local organizations, and serving the needs of the local APIA community, all with the hopes of training culturally sensitive and socially responsible future physicians.

    The College of Human Medicine's APAMSA chapter will be guided by the following motivations:

    CHM Serve (College of Human Medicine Serve)

    Mission: The primary purpose of CHM Serve is to administer the Pharmacy Assist program at the Care Free Clinic at 1100 West Saginaw Street, Suite 5, Lansing, MI, 48915. CHM Serve is responsible for staffing the Pharmacy Assist office on a weekly basis with volunteers, at days and hours determined by the executive board.

    Ancillary purposes of CHM Serve are to raise awareness about lack of prescription drug coverage and health insurance coverage generally, as well as healthcare challenges concerning underserved populations.

    Additional outreach programs and support will be added as needed and possible with the support of Care Free staff and patients.

    The Pediatric Interest Group at MSUCHM is geared towards providing opportunities for medical students to become introduced to the specialty of pediatrics and the care of children and young adults.     Mission: Our purpose is to foster interest in Emergency Medicine, a specialty for those who want to engage in a variety of procedures and skills to help patients at their most vulnerable. Our goals are to introduce our fellow students to all the amazing things EM physicians do, as well as help develop skills they will need for rotations and beyond. Our purpose is to expose the incoming medical students to the world of emergency medicine and the subspecialties it has to offer in modern healthcare system.     Mission: Our mission is to provide an outlet from the stresses of medical school and foster a community interested in the sport of golf. This group will be open to all MSU CHM students interested in learning how to play or those wanting to hone in on their craft. Since MSU CHM prioritizes the mental health of its students, golf can be a great way to help students decompress with minimal strenous exercise and maximal socialization with colleagues and others physicians interested in the sport. In addition, in the future, we aim to utilize this club as a networking tool, with the end goal of starting an MSU CHM golf outing with MSU alumni and practicing physicians within the GR area.

    Vision: Street Medicine Grand Rapids believes that all people should have equitable access to  healthcare

    Mission: To bring high-quality healthcare to homeless persons through a student-run and  multidisciplinary outreach that is partnered with community resources

    Goals of Our Organization:

    • Increase accessibility and affordability of medical care for persons experiencing homelessness throughout the Grand Rapids community.
    • Build positive relationships between the medical community and the Grand Rapids communities of persons experiencing homelessness.
    • Identify barriers that patients experience in accessing care and help facilitate connection with primary care, mental health, and substance use services.
    • Provide preventative care to patients experiencing homelessness, to improve quality of life and prevent complications of acute or chronic conditions.
    • Build a safe and stable program, that patients experiencing homelessness feel comfortable at and confident in to provide them with care for acute and chronic medical conditions.
    • Continuous education for students, physicians, and our community partners about the best practices in caring for patients in our community experiencing homelessness guided by experiences of street medicine volunteers on the ground.

    Mission: We, students at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, establish the Grand Rapids Surgery Interest Group (GRSIG), an organization founded on the principles of service, professionalism, humility, collaboration, and critical thinking. The purpose of this organization is to educate students about the fields of surgery, to provide a framework and guidance for students seeking to become competitive surgical residency applicants, to allow future surgeons to network with other medical students and with practicing physicians, allow students to develop skills relevant for surgery, and to encourage MSU CHM students to consider a career in surgery. In accordance with this view, we establish this Constitution to be our guiding document in all organizational affairs.     Mission: The goal of the MSU CHM Infectious Disease Interest Group (IDIG) is to introduce and encourage interest among medical students in infectious disease, both as a subspecialty and subject matter. IDIG will work to increase student awareness and confidence with infectious disease topics and how the field plays an intimate role in all health care settings.     Mission: MSU-CHM MSPA is established for the expressed purpose of increasing the competency and confidence of medical students, healthcare professionals, and faculty in serving Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual/Agender/Aromantic+ (LGBTQIA+) patient populations. Through campus involvement, workshops, and community outreach, our mission is to improve the health of LGBTQIA+ patient populations and to take steps to acknowledge and address the injustices that contribute to health disparities in marginalized communities, specifically Black, Indigenous, & People of Color (BIPOC) and trans folks. We believe it is important to center BIPOC and trans folks in the work of the organization because of the way that intersectionality impacts people who belong to multiple minority groups.

Medical students worldwide are invited to submit manuscripts and serve as trained reviewers.     MSU CHM Chapter of organization in the process of becoming a non-profit

    Mission: Music For Dementia aims to help residents suffering from dementia cope with memory loss and reconnect with their loved ones through a customized music program. The program focuses on each individual by providing live performances and personalized playlists. In fact, we don't just offer music, but individualized music that is meaningful to each resident and is more effective in improving mood, engagement, and reducing anxiety. We hope that personalized music can become an integral part of Dementia care in nursing homes.

    All skill levels and instruments are welcome and performing is not a requirement. Anyone who is passionate about our cause can find their place within MFD!

    Mission: The MSU CHM Refugee Outreach Collective (ROC) chapter upholds three foundational pillars: education, service, and advocacy.     Mission: The purpose of SIGN is to introduce medical students to the field of neurology by bringing them together with fellow students with similar interests through discussions by neurologists, patient presentations, seminars, journal clubs, learning materials, and arranged shadowing of neurologists in the workplace. Medical students become aware of opportunities, and participate in activities, related to the field of neurology, including opportunities for research, creating a new generation of neurologists and AAN members.

    Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.

    Goals:  To serve as a credible and accurate source of information relevant to minority issues in the field of medical education.

    To encourage and foster the development of minority faculty in order to increase the presence of minority mentors and biomedical researchers in academic health centers.

    Mission: This group hopes to create a diverse community of individuals who can benefit from the holistic effects of yoga. Yoga has long been recognized to improve mental health, physical well being, and to promote a sense of well-being among practictioners. Medical school is well-known for being stressful and challenging, and students benefit from non-class related activities. Through weekly classes both at local institutions as well as free group-led classes, we are excited to bring this opportunity to our classmates.
