Am I Ready? Promotion Series
Registration for the Am I Ready? series for 2025-2026 will open in September 2025.
The Am I Ready? promotion series began in the 2024-2025 academic year as an evolution of the college’s efforts to provide useful, sustainable support for career development for early career faculty in the non-tenure systems. Given their unique roles as academics, a consistent challenge for faculty in these systems early in their careers is finding advice on collecting and organizing the evidence they will use to demonstrate academic excellence in a future promotion application.
The series is designed for CHM faculty in non-tenure systems who have been at MSU between one and three years. The series will not cover the details of assembling a promotion dossier. It is best for those looking forward to applying for promotion action in another two to five years.
The Am I Ready? series has three components.
Step 1: Understanding Paths and Expectations
The Understanding Paths and Expectations pre-workshop webinars provide information specific to your appointment system and an opportunity to ask questions of the Faculty Affairs and Development team. The webinars provide information you will need to assess your readiness for promotion in an interactive, replay-able format. Register for the date that corresponds to your appointment system:
- For MSU-paid fixed term faculty (September 30, 10-11 a.m.)
- For academic specialists (October 28, 10-11 a.m.)
- For health programs and non-prefix faculty (November 13, 4-5 p.m.)
Recordings and materials will be available on the CHM Faculty Development MediaSpace channel following each event. All registrants receive notification when their recording is available.
Step 2: Mentor Panel
In this video, a panel of experienced CHM non-tenure-system faculty answer questions and provide advice to those considering a promotion application. The video is pre-recorded and available on demand.
Step 3: Am I Ready? Workshop
In this 60-minute workshop, participants learn strategies and complete tasks to help them assess and monitor their readiness for submitting a promotion application. Two sessions of this workshop will be offered in 2025-2026:
- In-person (December 11, 3-4 p.m., East Fee Halll, East Lansing campus) – if sufficient demand
- Virtual (January 13, 9-10 a.m., Zoom)
Interested? Check back in September 2025 to register.
