In Memoriam: Barbara Wolf, PhD

December 30, 2024

On December 24, we lost a wonderful friend and colleague, Assistant Professor Barbara Wolf, PhD. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones for this heartbreaking loss.

I have known and worked with Barbara as a part of our Flint campus for as long as I can remember. She was smart, hardworking, great with patients, diligent and thoughtful with students, and a peach with colleagues and staff. She was the best.

For many years, Barbara was our psychiatry clerkship director in Flint, and of late has been the behavioral health faculty for the college’s affiliated family medicine residency at McLaren Flint. For the last month, Barbara had been helping that program deal with the death of a senior resident in a motorcycle accident. My heart goes out to program director, Sara El Sayed, MD, our faculty, our residents, students, and all our colleagues struggling under the weight of these tragedies. Support resources are here.

As I have walked on the recent balmy winter nights, I have thought about all the students and residents Dr. Wolf has helped train over the years and all the patients she treated and made better. Her legacy is centered in Flint where she worked, but it spreads across the country and the world. Her influence has been vast over a remarkable career. Flint will miss her, we will miss her, I will miss her.

Peace,
