Bio

Richard J. Zarbo, MD, DMD, is the interim chair of the Department of Pathology and professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Zarbo currently serves as system chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Henry Ford Health, where he led the creation of a unified system laboratory operations structure and the only ISO 15189 accredited medical laboratories in Michigan.

Zarbo is a dual-degree physician-dentist, board-certified in both anatomic and clinical pathology. He earned his DMD and MD degrees from the University of Connecticut and completed pathology residency training at the University of Michigan and Hartford Hospital.

As a nationally recognized academic pathologist, Zarbo has been awarded substantial federal and industry research funding and has authored an extensive list of peer-reviewed publications. He is on the editorial boards of Applied Immunohistochemistry & Molecular Morphology and The American Journal of Surgical Pathology and sits on the Executive Advisory Board of the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.

Zarbo is a past president of both the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology and the Michigan Society of Pathologists. He is a founding member and board trustee of Project Santa Fe Foundation. He has also chaired and contributed to numerous national committees dedicated to advancing the field of pathology.
