Bio
Stuart Johnson, DO, is the community assistant dean for the Upper Peninsula Campus.
Dr. Johnson is deeply committed to medical education and rural workforce development. He currently serves as the designated institutional official (DIO) for UP Health System–Marquette and chief executive officer of the Upper Peninsula Health Education Corporation. He is also a former program director of the Family Medicine Residency.
Dr. Johnson is a family physician and hospice and palliative medicine specialist who serves as medical director of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. He maintains an outpatient family medicine practice and provides osteopathic manual medicine, drawing on more than two decades of experience caring for patients across the continuum of care, including previous work in hospital medicine and obstetrics.
His professional passion centers on recruiting, training, and retaining students who are committed to delivering high-quality care in rural communities throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He is actively involved in developing educational pathways, scholarship opportunities, and community partnerships that strengthen the region's healthcare workforce.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with his wife, five children, and six grandchildren. His hobbies include gardening, woodworking, biking, and tinkering on a variety of projects.
