Bio
Matt Emery, MD is the community assistant dean for the Grand Rapid Campus at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Dr. Emery graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and the Emergency Medicine Residency at Spectrum-Butterworth in Grand Rapids (now Corewell Health). He holds a master’s degree in health professions education from the University of Michigan. After three decades as an emergency medicine provider, he stepped away from clinical practice in 2022 to focus full-time on undergraduate medical education.
In previous roles at the medical school, he served as associate chair for academic affairs for the Department of Emergency Medicine (2009 to 2024), and as the medical director for simulation (2013-2024), and fellow in the Learning Academy (2020-2026).
Previous roles outside of CHM include serving as an ABEM oral board examiner from 2001 to 2019, and Core Faculty with the Emergency Medicine residency at the Spectrum Health (now Corewell) EM residency program from 2003 to 2018.
