College of Human Medicine Student Receives Public Health Award
April 16, 2026
Fourth-year College of Human Medicine student Taylor Lombard has received the 2026 Excellence in Public Health Award from the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Physician Professional Advisory Committee (PPAC).
The USPHS PPAC Excellence in Public Health Award recognizes medical students whose work in public health has made a positive impact in their community. College of Human Medicine faculty members and staff at the Flint Campus recommended Lombard for the award, citing her ability to “prioritize impact over intent” in both service to the community and researching barriers to health care.
Lombard has been actively involved in community-based initiatives as a medical student; including Spartan Street Medicine, the West Michigan Health Careers Pipeline Program, and Whaley Children’s Center in Flint. She has led research projects addressing barriers to HPV vaccination and perinatal healthcare adequacy. After graduating this May, she will continue her training in Family Medicine at the University of Michigan.
Lombard will be recognized alongside fellow awardees at the 2026 Virtual Student Scholarship Awards Program on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
