Dean Rayamajhi’s Weekly Rundown

October 3, 2025

Dear colleagues,

The past three weeks have been an immersive experience as an incoming interim dean of the College of Human Medicine. I am honored to take on this role and guide our college through the months ahead.

Technically, October 1 was my first day, though I have spent the fortnight absorbing as much knowledge from Dean Sousa as possible before his last day. Wednesday evening’s retirement party was a special tribute to Aron’s exceptional career at Michigan State marked by service, leadership, and accomplishment.

To carry on the tradition of Friday updates from the dean, I’ll lean more on photography to highlight the good work of those around us. Look for photo updates from me every two weeks or so.

Here are some highlights leading into interim dean week.

Secchia Center 15th Anniversary

During the Secchia Center’s 15th anniversary event, I had the opportunity to talk with many students, faculty, staff and community partners. Engaging with students was the highlight.

ACP Conference with Residents

The Michigan Chapter of American College of Physicians held its annual scientific meeting in Traverse City at the end of September. I was proud to see several of our internal medicine residents with posters and oral presentations. The fall semester is always a busy season, but there’s nothing more gratifying than showing up to support trainees and connecting with colleagues.

Teaching LCE Students

Dean Rayamajhi prepping LCE students.

Earlier this week, I precepted a session of LCE student case presentations at UM Health-Sparrow. While I won’t be rounding quite as much for the foreseeable future, I stay grounded in moments like this. Training our future physicians is core and central to my existence as an academician.

Faculty Investiture Ceremony

Chaz Hong being honored at the university investiture.

Last Tuesday, I attended the State of the University Address and Faculty Investiture. It was my pleasure to watch two of our distinguished College of Human Medicine faculty honored at the event. Join me in congratulating Chaz Hong, MD, PhD, MSU Research Foundation Professor and chair of the Department of Medicine, and Lucas Pozzo-Miller, PhD, Mall Family Endowed Professor in Genetic Autism Research in the Department of Pediatrics & Human Development, for their accomplishments.

Gold Humanism Honor Society Induction Ceremony

A group of gold humanism inductees on a zoom call.

The celebration of excellence continued at Thursday evening’s Gold Humanism Honor Society induction ceremony where I was honored to provide opening remarks. Four faculty and 26 students were chosen by their peers to be inducted into the GHHS.

Tomorrow, I’ll be running in the “Miles for Medicine” 5K hosted by the Student National Medical Association. There’s still time to sign up. I hope to see you there.

Best regards,

Supratik Rayamajhi, MD, FACP
