Bio
Karen Stanley-Kime, PhD., LP, ABPP, is the assistant dean for student wellness and engagement in the Office of Student Affairs and Services and an assistant professor in the Office of Medical Education Research and Development at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.
Dr. Stanley-Kime earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology, master’s degree in clinical behavioral psychology, and PhD in clinical psychology from Eastern Michigan University. Her professional interests include medical student well-being, resilience, suicide prevention, and creating supportive learning environments that enable students to thrive both personally and professionally.
As a board-certified clinical psychologist, she leads the college's Health and Wellness program, overseeing initiatives that support the holistic well-being of medical students at all campuses. Dr. Stanley-Kime provides strategic leadership for student wellness programming, mental health promotion, peer support initiatives, basic needs resources, crisis response, and student well-being curriculum development. She also directs data-informed continuous quality improvement efforts related to student well-being and mental health services. She greatly values partnering with students, faculty, and staff to foster a culture that supports learner success and flourishing throughout medical training.
Prior to joining the College of Human Medicine, Dr. Stanley-Kime served as assistant director of the Stabilize, Educate, Empower, Collaborate (SEEC) Program within Michigan State University's Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS), where she led interdisciplinary services for MSU students with complex mental health concerns, coordinated critical incident response efforts, and developed suicide prevention programming.
A lifelong Michigander, Dr. Stanley-Kime enjoys reading, community service, and spending time with her family.
