Bio
Nakia Allen, MD, is the community assistant dean of the Detroit Campus, and serves as director of undergraduate medical education at Henry Ford Health. She is passionate about medical student teaching, having served as a community preceptor, clerkship director and mentor.
Prior to this role, she was the director of the Advanced Skills and Knowledge Course at the Detroit Campus, as well as director of pediatric education, pediatric clinical site director, and division head of multiple clinical sites in the Henry Ford Health department of pediatrics.
Allen received her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from College of Human Medicine (’07). She completed her pediatric residency, including a year as chief pediatric resident, at Detroit Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
Since joining the Henry Ford Medical Group in 2011 as a senior staff physician in ambulatory pediatrics, Dr. Allen has been a very active clinician-educator, having created courses in UGME and GME. Her patient-centered approach to teaching encourages medical students and other learners to look beyond basic presenting symptoms to incorporate social and behavioral contributors impacting health outcomes.
Allen is a fellow of the American Association of Medical Colleges Leadership Education and Development Program and a faculty inductee in the Wayne State University Gold Humanism Honor Society.
