Meet the Class of 2027
Our “Get to Know” series introduces several first-year medical students as the college welcomes the Entering Class of 2023.
Zeinab Mhanna
Zeinab Mhanna was inspired to pursue medicine during her role as a caregiver for seniors with dementia. Her journey begins at the Lansing Campus with her husband, Karim, who is also part of this year’s entering class of medical students!
Matthew Foley
Matthew Foley was inspired to pursue medicine by seeing his mother’s compassion for patients while working as a CNA in a nursing home. Matt begins medical school at the Lansing Campus and will return to the UP where he grew up to complete his training through the college’s Rural Physician Program.
Erika Rapp
Erika Rapp is a West Point graduate with a passion for science and military medicine. As an Army doctor, she will fulfill her dream of caring for American’s warfighters and their families, and being an advocate for changes in medicine.
Pedro Bonilla
Pedro Bonilla had an unconventional path towards medicine. His intended career in biomedical research changed course after volunteering in a California hospital. With a passion for working with underserved patient populations, he moved from LA to the Grand Rapids to begin his medical degree.
Ramsha Rizvi
Ramsha Rizvi is following in her family's medical footsteps. Inspired by her brother Syed, who attends the College of Osteopathic Medicine, and her mother Dr. Humaira Rizvi, a dedicated clinical assistant professor at both MSU medical schools, Ramsha is beginning her own journey at the College of Human Medicine.
Daniel Bishay
Daniel Bishay proudly wears his white coat as a symbol of all his parents’ pursuit of a better life in the US, as well as his hard work and determination to find “the right fit” in medical school. He’s inspired to become a compassionate physician like several doctors he has encountered throughout his life.
