Congratulations to the Class of 2023 on a successful match!

This year, 184 rising Spartan MDs at seven MSU College of Human Medicine community campuses statewide (Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Midland, Southeast Michigan, Traverse City, Upper Peninsula Region) learned where they matched for residency this summer.

  • 100% of MSU College of Human Medicine’s seniors have secured residency placements. This includes students who participated in the NRMP Match, the NRMP Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP), and other residency placements, including the advanced matches and the Military Match.
  • 48% of the 2023 seniors are entering a primary care residency (i.e., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, and Pediatrics), an increase from 2022, wherein 43% of the graduates entered primary care residencies.
  • 44% of the seniors will remain in Michigan for their residency training in 2023. 
  • The top six specialty placements in rank order by percentage:
    • Internal Medicine, 20.8%
    • Family Medicine, 15.8%
    • Emergency Medicine, 13.7%
    • Pediatrics, 9.3%
    • Psychiatry, 7.1%
    • Anesthesiology, 6.0%
