DIVISON'S MISSION
The Mission of the Michigan State University’s Division of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is to develop and improve therapeutics and prevention of mental illness, to build resilience in order to benefit patients, as well as local and global community, via scientific discoveries and wisdom.
We will accomplish these goals through:
- Patient care – we will strive to practice psychiatric medicine using the strongest evidence-based approaches available for the betterment of people and their families suffering from mental illnesses and do so with a spirit of collegiality and mutual respect.
- Education – we will educate the public about the nature and cause of mental illness, raise awareness about effective treatments, and work to decrease stigmatization of these illnesses. We will teach our trainees using proven, evidence-based methods for the care of patients with psychiatric illness.
- Service – we will work with patients, families, advocacy groups, lawmakers and other willing parties to ensure both understanding and rightful care of those suffering from mental illness.
- Research - To develop and improve therapeutics and prevention of mental illness, to build resilience in order to benefit patients, as well as local and global community, via scientific discoveries and wisdom.
