Bio

Deana Wilbanks, Ed.D. is the Director for Medical Student Career Advising and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. She a licensed professional counselor in higher education who enjoys teaching and providing career advising to medical students across all four years of medical school. Dr. Wilbanks has been with the College of Human Medicine for almost 20 years. When asking her about her favorite part of her job, she always says “spending time with the students, helping them explore various career paths in medicine, and assisting them in preparing for the residency application and match.”  When she is not reviewing medical student CVs, personal statements, or leading a career advising seminars, she is training physician faculty in advising students or working on research projects. Dr. Wilbanks has engaged in scholarly activity examining how medical students make specialty choice decisions resulting in multiple presentations and publications. She is also a faculty advsior for the Medical Business Finance intersession offered each spring semester.

Dr. Wilbanks earned a Doctorate of Education in Administration and Leadership from Michigan State University. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Counseling degree from the University of North Georgia.
