Bio
Teresa Thomas, MS, serves as research administration manager for the Health Colleges Research Services (HCRS) Post-Award Unit at Michigan State University.
A proud Spartan, Teresa earned both of her degrees from Michigan State University: a Bachelor of Science in physical science secondary education, a minor in business administration, and a Master of arts in counseling, educational psychology, special education, and educational technology.
Throughout her distinguished career at MSU, she has led multiple college-level pre-award offices and provided expertise in project setup, project management, process development, and research administration.
Teresa has extensive experience coordinating sponsored research activities funded by federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD), and Department of Education (DOE). She has also worked extensively with public and private foundations, industry-sponsored research, proposal development, and award management.
Her expertise spans project management, post-award administration, faculty and staff training, development of large multidisciplinary proposals, and negotiation of cost-sharing and facilities and administrative (F&A) cost distributions. Teresa has guided numerous investigators and research teams through all stages of the research administration lifecycle, helping to establish effective processes and achieve successful project outcomes
Teresa is a founding member of the SPROUT group and was part of the training team that collaborated with the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation and Sponsored Programs Administration to develop MSU’s Essentials of Research Administration program. She actively participates in local, statewide, and national advisory committees and regularly presents at professional trainings and conferences. Beyond her work in research administration, Teresa has taught at Baker College and Northwest Alternative High School.
