Bio

Micah Lissy, MD, MSPT, ATC, CSCS, is the chair of the Department of Orthopedics at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine.  

Dr. Lissy earned his medical degree from the New York Program in Tel Aviv, Israel, following five years working in healthcare after achieving a Master of Science in physical therapy from Ithaca College. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center and a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Detroit Medical Center. During his time at DMC, Dr. Lissy provided care to some of Michigan’s top professional athletes, including members of the Detroit Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings.

Prior to joining the college and MSU Health Care’s Sports Medicine Clinic in 2022, he served for nearly a decade within the United Health Services system in Binghamton, New York, where he held multiple academic and leadership roles, including chair of Orthopedics, medical director of Sports Medicine, and clinical assistant professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Since assuming leadership, he has advanced the department’s academic mission with a strong emphasis on integrating clinical practice with scholarship, research productivity, and medical education. His leadership has prioritized strengthening the department’s role within the broader Michigan State University academic community, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and educational engagement across colleges and training programs.
