Bio

Mike Alnarshi, LMSW, is the assistant director of student counseling and wellness in Lansing. He is passionate about educating students on topics such as mental and behavioral health and well-being, mindfulness, meditation, radical acceptance, and self-compassion.

Before joining the College of Human Medicine, Alnarshi was a counselor at MSU’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services for six years. He helped develop and implement the Intensive Clinical Service Unit (now called SEEC) which provides students with evidenced based, trauma informed, and culturally competent crisis response services, individual counseling, group counseling, psychiatry, case management, and referral coordination services to a diverse student population who presented with severe and persistent mental illness.

Alnarshi prides himself on connecting students with referrals to high-quality resources based on their specific needs which may be influenced by their racial and ethnic background, gender and sexual identity, family culture, trauma history, and academic and professional pursuits.  

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from the University of Michigan – Flint in 2011 and a master’s degree in social work from Michigan State University in 2016. He is happily married and is the father of a beautiful baby boy. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, listening to music, walking, and reading.
