On behalf of the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion we would like you to invite you to join us for the College of Human Medicine Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Grand Rounds. At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • • Improve one’s understanding/awareness of the recent history of the LGBTQAI+ community
    • Improve one’s understanding of the health care needs of the LGBTQAI+ community
    • Improve one’s ability to create inclusive health care environments for the LGBTQAI+ community

Presented by Joel Maurer, MD

Joel Maurer, MD earned his medical school degree from the University of Nebraska Medical
Center. He completed residencies in Family Medicine (Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT) and
OB/GYN (University of Missouri – Columbia Hospital and Clinics) and maintains Board Certification
in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He worked in an OB/GYN private practice group for five years before embarking on an academic career at Michigan State University in 2005, where he has embraced numerous patient care, medical student and resident education, and administrative roles. One of his educational goals has been to improve health care professionals’ understanding of the diverse patient care needs within the LGBTQAI+ community.
