Upper Peninsula Region

The Upper Peninsula Region campus is located at UP Health System – Marquette. Established in 1974, approximately 20 third- and fourth-year medical students complete their clerkships in Marquette and in community hospitals and clinics throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Living and working in these rural communities offers students a greater understanding of the needs of its underserved populations. Deeply embedded in the community, students participate in a wide range of service projects including medical support at sporting events, visiting residents at the Veterans Medical Center, and providing assistance at the domestic violence and homeless shelters.

The UP Regional Campus is the pioneer of the Rural Physician Program (RPP), a rural health certificate within the college’s Leadership in Rural Medicine Certificate Programs. Students complete four weeks of family medicine rotations in rural communities, gaining a deeper understanding of the role of the family physician in a rural setting, learn the benefits and challenges of rural health care and identify resources (or a lack of resources) available to the population – all in preparation for a future serving patients in rural communities.
