The College of Human Medicine invites you to support our Spring Donation Drive for the CHM Sharing Shelves, an initiative dedicated to helping students meet their basic needs.
Launched by the Office of Student Affairs Health and Wellness Program, the Sharing Shelves are free, open-access resources available to students at our Grand Rapids and East Lansing campuses.
These shelves provide essential food and hygiene items to help ensure students can focus on their education without the added stress of food or supply insecurity.

Why It Matters
“The sharing shelf continues to make a big impact. I have heard many students express immense gratitude for it as a new resource, several even saying it is one of the best initiatives CHM has implemented in a long time.” — M2 Student
Recent survey data from CHM students underscores the importance of this resource:
- 10% of first-year (M1) students reported sometimes not having enough food
- 22% of M1 students reported eating the same unhealthy food for several days due to cost
- 27% of second-year (M2) students reported sometimes not having enough food
- 36% of M2 students reported worrying their food would run out before they had money to buy more
Data from Fall 2025 CHM Food Security Survey (67% M1 participation; 17% M2 participation).
