Remembering Sunny Shah, MD, Class of 2016

Thank you Sunny for brightening our lives.

Please consider donating to the Najmul ‘Sunny’ Shah Memorial Medical Education Scholarship. This scholarship was created in memory of Sunny Shah and will provide renewable scholarship support. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a third or fourth year student who performs a project that aims to improve the well-being of fellow colleagues or to a student who conducts research that addresses how to create medical training environments that promote physician wellness and mitigate burnout.

A message from Dean Beauchamp

Friends,

I am distraught at the passing of Sunny Shah, a graduate of the Class of 2016 and wonderful alumna of our college. She was very active in the college. She delighted and inspired so many peers and faculty. She was destined to bring health and healing to many. It is a tremendous loss.

Sunny was at the Grand Rapids campus for her training and was an anesthesia resident at Loma Linda. Her passing was sudden and unexpected. Not all of the details of her death are known.

This is such a sad time, and we all need to be present for each other. Be sure to turn to someone, if you are struggling or if you need to talk.

The college has two counselors available for students (Judy Brady and Terry McGovern) and we encourage you to contact them at any point. Sunny's passing is difficult for staff and faculty too, and the MSU employee assistance program is available by email (eap@hc.msu.edu) and on-line (http://eap.msu.edu/).

This is obviously a very sad and difficult time for Sunny's family and friends, and I ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We have all lost a wonderful person, and I ask that you cherish each other as we grieve her loss.

In Peace
Norm
