Main Floor

The interior of the Secchia Center begins with a sequence of public spaces which culminates in a four-story atrium designed to be the "living room" of the building.

To the sides of the atrium are an amphitheatre and an auditorium, each integrating advanced media technologies, including touch screen plasma panels and high definition conferencing to connect Grand Rapids medical students with East Lansing students and the college's community campuses throughout the state.

At the center of the main lobby is a black granite plinth inscribed with the College of Human Medicine's attributes of a virtuous physician. These professional characteristics are embodied in various codes of ethics for medical doctors and are a hallmark of medical education at the college.

On either side of the plinth is an art gallery that functions as an informal meeting space and the Community Commons that opens onto a terrace with spectacular views of downtown Grand Rapids.
