Awards & Appointments

  • Wayne McCullough, PhD, interim director of the Division of Public Health and director of the Master in Public Health program, received the MSU Outstanding Supervisor Award.
  • Sean A. Valles, PhD, director of the Center for Bioethics and Social Justice, announced a partnership with Center for Values in International Development.
  • Arlynn Dailey, Director of Community Engagement & Outreach - Detroit, has been selected to participate in the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership program, an eight-month transformational leadership program designed to challenge emerging and existing community leaders from Southeast Michigan to bring about positive change.
  • Nicholas Kanaan, PhD, professor in the Department of Translational Neuroscience, was named the Maibach-Smiley Professor in Alzheimer's Disease Research.
  • Karen Smith, PhD, and Leonard M. Fleck, PhD, presented at the October 13 Bioethics for Breakfast session, offering their insight and expertise on the topic “Demystifying End-of-Life Care.”
  • Leonard M. Fleck, PhD, professor in the Center for Bioethics and Social Justice, discusses his latest book, Precision Medicine and Distributive Justice: Wicked Problems for Democratic Deliberation.

  • Second-year student Mahfujul Haque was awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Panacea Financial Foundation, a 501(c)3 focused on strengthening the pipeline of underrepresented ethnic and racial minorities in medicine.
  • Six students from our U.P. Campus were named recipients of the Mazzuchi Scholarship: Amanda Ziminski, Alexander Stamm, Oliva Wiese, David Klemet, Galloway Thurston, and Kyle Burton.
  • Jasmanpreet Kaur and Amanda Schoonover were recognized by the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine with a grant entitled "Stop the Bleed' Events: A Missed Opportunity for the Inclusion of Firearm Safety and Education in U.S. Medical Schools.”
