Microbiology and Molecular Genetics

The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics is one of the largest and oldest microbiology departments in the country. Our department is at the forefront of new and exciting discoveries being made in microbial ecology, microbial pathogenesis, molecular genetics, virology, genomics, immunology and cancer.

The department is unique because it serves three MSU medical colleges (Osteopathic Medicine, Human Medicine and Veterinary Medicine), the College of Natural Science, the Agricultural Experiment Station, the College of Nursing and other units on campus.
