Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies (KCMS)
MSU/KCMS is a unique university-community integrated program. As a clinical campus of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, MSU/KCMS provides residents the opportunity to teach medical students in an academic setting. As MSU/KCMS exists as a partnership with Borgess Medical Center and Bronson Methodist Hospital, these hospitals are not just a working environment for residents and medical students; they are partners of our institution and have supported graduate medical education for more than 50 years. The proven commitment to medical education has resulted in a quality of patient care to rival university medical centers and provides the advantages of a community patient population – the best of both worlds for our residents.
MSU/KCMS extends the opportunity to serve the patient population in the hospital setting as well as through outpatient care. Our 90,000 square foot ambulatory teaching center sees more than 60,000 annual visits in its numerous clinics and offers a full range of on-site ancillary services.
MSU/KCMS has 53 full-time faculty, all holding academic rank through the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. Our faculty has offices in the MSU/KCMS’ ambulatory care/teaching facility, allowing medical students and residents to meet with faculty in an intimate setting close to the clinics where you will gain outpatient experience and close to both hospitals, where the faculty have admitting privileges.
Personal attention and one-on-one interaction will characterize your experience at MSU/KCMS. Our faculty have a variety of interests, and all hold teaching as a prime responsibility. They will pass on to you the knowledge that has gained them national recognition in their fields.
In addition to full-time faculty, MSU/KCMS has more than 475 clinical faculty, practicing physicians in the community who volunteer their time and give you the opportunity to gain one-on-one experience in their private offices. These physicians also hold clinical faculty appointments through MSU.
