Application Deadline – June 13, 2008
The Educational Scholars Leadership Program (ESLP) is open to all CHM faculty with an interest in medical student education and scholarship. The overall goal of the ESLP is to prepare CHM faculty for long-term success in their educational leadership and scholarly activities.
A maximum of twelve CHM faculty will be selected for each two-year program. Thus, special attention will be given to those applicants who are currently involved in medical student education, who demonstrate an interest in and potential as a leader in medical student education, and who are interested in medical education scholarship. These criteria should be kept in mind as the ESLP Scholars Application is completed and arrangements are made for a Letter of Reference.
To be eligible for the Educational Scholars Leadership Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Have a current faculty appointment in the College of Human Medicine.
- Be involved in the education of medical students. A preference will be given to those applicants who currently hold medical student educational leadership positions.
- Be nominated by and have the full support of their academic supervisor.
- Agree to attend all on-campus sessions, complete all required assignments, and complete a mentored educational project generating a peer-reviewed scholarly product.
- Agree to attend and participate in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting (in November) during the second year of the program.
- Agree to pay an annual $2,000 annual ($4,000 total) Expenses/Materials Fee at the beginning of each program year.
Submit the following materials (electronic or hard copy) to the address provided. All materials must be received by June 13, 2008.
- A completed Educational Scholars Leadership Program Application. (Word Document)
- A recent Curriculum Vita.
- A Letter of Reference from the applicant’s academic supervisor. Written letters should be submitted on institutional letterhead. Electronically submitted letters must be sent from the supervisor’s email address.
- A completed ESLP Needs Assessment Questionnaire. (Word Document)
The Supervisor’s Letter of Reference must address the following:
- How participating in the Educational Scholars Leadership Program will be beneficial to the individual, academic unit, and the College.
- Strengths and weaknesses of the applicant in
- teaching
- educational leadership
- oral/written communication skills
- scholarly activity.
- Responsiveness to deadlines and feedback.
- Potential as an educational leader in the College of Human Medicine.
