The 2009 entering class of the College of Human Medicine participated in the college's third annual Afternoon of Community Service, Wednesday, August 26. The students began their afternoon by donating non-perishable food and personal care items for the new university-wide MSU initiative “Fill the Bus.”

Then, the 156 students divided into teams and visited nine local organizations to help with such tasks as sorting food donations, assisting residents with exercise programs, preparing backpacks to give away to school children, assisting with children’s activities, tutoring individuals, sanitizing toys, and stocking pantries.

The 2009 organizations include: Mid-Michigan Food Bank, Whitehills Health Care Center, Lansing City Rescue Mission, Haven House, Southside Community Coalition, Ronald McDonald House, Eve’s Place, Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care and Ele’s Place.
